About This Blog

Welcome to the NC Outward Bound School Blog Spot!

Looking for a refreshing, new perspective on what it means to go Outward Bound? You have come to the right place. This blog is a place for our alumni to share their experiences from their Outward Bound expedition with others. It is written by alumni, for alumni – we just provide the space.

We have a wide variety of readers, from students and families who have not yet been on course and want more information before they too, become alums, to those who have been on course and want to connect with their NCOBS community to share stories from their expeditions. Want to tell your own NCOBS story? Find out how.

  1. Hi, I am so happy to see this blog. I am an alum of NCOBS. I had, what remains, the best experience of my life in 1985 when I made the awesome decision to do the Three month Odyessy Semester course. Our trip originated in Ashville, NC. We travelled up to Florida for an expedition in the Everglades, then we went Mexico to do service projects and climb two Volcanoes. It was immediately following the devastating Earthquake. I have not been able to find any of my crew. I would love to hear from anyone. Our instructors were Martha, Mat and Ken. Our crew was Chris, Haynes, Stewart, Peter, Leah, Leslie, Whitney, Jacky, Dawn, Greg (aka Ninja), Kerry and me Gina!

    1. Hey Gina,
Thank you for sharing your experience here! Sounds like you had an epic adventure. Unfortunately, we don’t have any clear way to get in touch with past alums yet (but we are working on it!) We always encourage alumni to share their experience in a blog however, because when we share it on all our social media channels there are a lot more eyes on it and often times your crewmates will see it. If you are interested, send us an email at nfava@ncobs.org. All the best!
